Mount Tomaree and Shoal Bay

Staying in the Hunter valley region, Jo and I are enjoying the many outdoor activities that Port Stephens has to offer. This weekend we took the 3 km hike up Tomaree mountain to an old WW2 lookout, radar station and gun emplacements. Although calling it a mountain is an over-statement and the war artifacts were reduced to a shell of their former self, the hike offered a good climb and some of the most beautiful scenery. From the top it was easy to see why Australia is such a paradise. The only wildlife on this trip though was limited to colonies of very large spiders who seem to be large enough to consume small birds. One of the highlights for myself was being able to try my luck at body boarding on Zenith Beach, large and populated with only about 5-8 people. Jo has caught the boarding bug as well and we will be shopping for a second one very soon.
